Tommy is a managing partner and portfolio manager at Relativity Capital. He utilizes a top down approach applying his proprietary technical tools developed over the last decade to analyze and dismantle the equity markets in order to see what is really going on inside to better guide the investment process. Taking this knowledge to funnel down and measure the markets based on various forms of relative strength helps more objectively manage the portfolios in an attempt to move where the money is going and away from where it is leaving. This provides a path to better tactical entries into positions while giving equal weight to risk management of the portfolios on both the macro and micro levels.
How He Got Here
After graduating from University of Georgia with a Finance degree with a concentration in Economics, Tommy began his career in the financial services in 1994 when he joined an Independent planning firm where he quickly moved into management. While managing his own clients as well as a group of other planning associates. In November 1999, he co-founded Barber Lackey Financial Group. Tommy worked on building this business working with clients and their investment portfolios at Barber Lackey Financial Group, and during this time he also received the designations of Certified Financial PlannerTM (CFP®), Certified Funds Specialist (CFS) and Chartered Market Technician (CMT). Bringing with him over 22 years of industry experience and wisdom, Tommy co-founded Relativity Capital Advisors with his wife, Jennifer, in 2016. Relativity Capital is a fee-only registered investment advisory firm specializing in actively managed portfolios. Tommy also spent a good bit of time publishing his technical research on an unaffiliated blog at gtlackey.com, but in the future that work will be showing up in a new form very soon.
Better Data, Better process and Better focus lead to better outcomes
Tommy’s desire to build better portfolios led him down the path of Technical analysis as a way to shut out the noise when managing his clients assets. Starting in 2002 after the Tech Wreck through present, Tommy has used his technical skills to build and hone the Power Investing analysis process bringing together all the best measures of strength in the markets and any security type to guide our investment choices. This historically tested data driven approach to relative strength based on participation, relative price performance and external relative strength are the trifecta that run our decision making.
Faith, Family and Community
After living in the Atlanta area most of his life, Tommy, Jennifer and their two sons, Jonathan and Jameson, moved to the Lake Oconee area in Greensboro, GA in August 2010. After moving down to the lake and getting the business settled in, Tommy has been active in the community working with strategic service organizations to help where he can. Second Harvest food for the poor, the Boys and Girls Club with Jennifer as well as other service based organizations through his church and small groups. Tommy also finds himself coaching community youth in Baseball and Soccer at the Greene County Recreation Department each year. Tommy and his family regularly attend Lake Oconee Church, a satellite of North Point Community Church, where he proudly serves on the Production Team. Tommy most enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, playing sports, shooting, boating and fishing. Really anything that creates smiles and memories with his family and the lake community.
